Bhaurao Patil

Bhaurao Patil

 (September 22, 1887 – May 09, 1959)

Bhaurao Patil, who was helpful to Mahamana Jyotiba Phule in the field of education, was a Marathi social reformer and educationist.  He established the Rayat Shikshan Sansthan to spread education to the backward people of the society.  Bhaurao had started the 'Kamva Shika' scheme to enable backward and poor children to get education.  He was also an important member of Mahamana Jyotirao Phule ji's Satyashodhak Samaj.

He spread education among the Bahujan community through Riyat Shikshan Sansthan.  Bhaurao Patil was a Jain by birth, but he mixed with the people so much that the entire Bahujan community started considering him as their own.  His personality was beyond caste.  Bhaurao Patil was deeply influenced by the truth-seeking thoughts of Mahatma Phule.  He knew that without education there can be no solution for the overall development of the society.  At many places, he is seen standing with the great social reformer Sant Gadge ji and Baba Saheb Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar ji, but there is a lack of information and literature in Hindi about their social contributions.

Today, on 22nd September, we pay our respects to Mahamana Jyotiba Phule ji's colleague and promoter of education, Bhaurao Patil ji, on his birth anniversary.
