E.V.  Ramasamy Naykar 'Periyar'

 (September 17, 1879—December 24, 1973)

The greatest Bahujan thinker and thinker, a rationalist, relying only on human reason, rejecting any kind of superstition, stupidity, inertia, irrationality and irrationality, rejecting every form of domination, injustice, inequality, subjugation and ignorance.  Challenging, with a distinctive logic, attitude and style of expression, the Messiah of the modern age, 'Socrates of South-East Asia, the father of social reformist movements and a staunch opponent of ignorance, superstition, conservatism and meaningless rituals, Voltaire's category  The great philosopher, thinker, writer, orator and great politician Erode Venkata Nayakkar Ramasamy (Periyar E.V. Ramasamy Nayakkar ji was born on this day on September 17, 1879 in Erode, Western Tamil Nadu in the Bahujan community (Balija/Dhangar/Gadariya  )) Happened in.  His father's name was Venkatappa Naykar and mother's name was Chinnabai.  Venkatappa Naykar ji was a big businessman.

In 1885 he joined a local primary school.  But after receiving less than five years of formal education, he had to join his father's business.  A series of bhajans and sermons continued at his house.  Since childhood, he used to question the authenticity of what was said in these sermons.  At the age of 19, he got married to a 13-year-old woman named Nagammal and he also imbued his life partner with his logical thoughts. Periyar Ramaswamy's family was religious and conservative. Contrary to the traditions of his family, Periyar Ramaswamy spent his adolescence in  From then onwards he started thinking using logical method.  Religious rituals and sermons often took place at his house.  Ramaswamy often put the ritualists in trouble with his logical questions.  As he grew older, Periyar became more firm on his scientific thinking.

Hui wrote - 'A man considers a woman as his property and does not believe that a woman can have feelings like him.'

He further writes that - 'For a man, a woman is his cook, his house maid, a means of reproduction to carry forward his family or lineage and a beautifully decorated doll to satisfy his aesthetic sense.'  While exposing the subjugation of women trapped in the shackles of religion, Periyar asks - Goddesses of knowledge and wealth are worshiped in religion, then why do these goddesses not provide education and property rights to women?  Women should be given rational knowledge and adequate education related to world affairs.  They should be kept away from literature, history or stories that give rise to superstition and fear.  Among the many reasons for the subjugation of women, the main reason is that they do not have the right to property.

He was a rationalist, atheist and humanist.  The main subject of his thinking was society and logic, yet his thoughts and views are reflected in the political and economic fields, he had an unwavering belief that only social liberation would pave the way for political and economic liberation, his wish was that the British should leave India.  Social equality should be established even before independence. Otherwise independence would mean that we have accepted Indian owners in place of foreign owners.  He thought that if these problems were not resolved before achieving independence, the caste system and its evils would remain forever.  He said that social reform is necessary before political reform.

Influenced by the movement and programs for Swaraj and at the request of Chakravarti Rajagopalachari ji, Periyar Ramaswamy Naykar joined the Congress in 1919.  But Periyar soon became disillusioned with the Congress due to the dominance of a particular caste and its unequal casteist policies.  Like Jyotiba Phule, Periyar also considers Bahujans as the original inhabitants of India.  Foreign invaders enslaved the Bahujans and to continue this slavery, the caste system was imposed on them.  Bahujans were exploited in the name of superstition and hypocrisy.  Periyar vocally opposed the hypocrisy of religion.  By writing 'Sachchi Ramayana', Periyar said that only through this can freedom, equality and self-respect be secured.  Periyar was a visionary.  After leaving Congress, Periyar joined the Justice Party.  Periyar has a deep influence on the socio-political scenario of Tamil Nadu.  No party within Tamil Nadu can openly criticize Periyar.  It was Periyar who started the Dravidian movement.  Many parties in Tamil Nadu are the product of this movement.  Dedicated to the rights of the Bahujans and a vocal opponent of ritualism and superstition, Ramaswamy Naykar was bestowed with the titles Thanthai (Father) and Periyar (Great) by his Bahujan followers.  In 1970, UNESCO declared Periyar the 'Socrates of South-East Asia'.  In fact, Periyar is the bearer of India's long Bahujan tradition.

Phule, Ambedkar and Periyar are the pillars of Bahujan thought tradition in the modern era.  There would be no exaggeration in calling him the Charvaka of modern India.  In an editorial in the Tamil weekly Kudiyarasu on March 29, 1931, Periyar compared Bhagat Singh and Gandhiji and expressed his agreement with Bhagat Singh's views.  *On August 23, 1944, two great persons of the deprived society, Baba Saheb Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar ji and E.V. Ramasamy Naykar Periyar ji met in Maharashtra.* In South India, Periyar Saheb fought against untouchability, superstition, hypocrisy and casteism.  Raised voice against it forcefully.

The main pillar of the modern Bahujan thought tradition, the great rationalist, politician, the inimitable warrior of the Bahujans, the revolutionary writer and the fierce leader of the rebellious consciousness against casteism, Periyar E.V. Ramaswamy Naykar passed away on December 24, 1973 at the age of 93.  happened.  Today his political and social legacy is being carried forward by Stalin in South India.  E.V. Ramaswamy Naykar ji's life of 94 years proves that being an atheist cannot lead to a short life.

Periyar E.V., a rationalist, adept politician, writer, rationalist thinker and hero of social revolution, who tried all his life to improve the condition of Bahujans and women, by exposing the Bahujans to hypocrisy, superstition and the conspiracy of superstitions and exposing them.  On the occasion of his 143rd birth anniversary on 17th September, my deepest respect and gratitude to Ramasamy Naykar Ji...
