India-Pakistan's administration of the Asia Cup, which is a controversial event, has raised concerns about the potential contort powers of the country.
India and Pakistan's cricket match in the Very Four phase of the Asia Cup has been postponed due to heavy rain. India will continue on 147-2 on Monday in the 50-over challenge, after Pakistan chose to bowl first in Colombo. An additional day was considered for the match, as a previous gathering meeting between the two groups was canceled due to heavy rain in Pallekele.
Downpour in Sri Lanka, a close competitor to Pakistan, disrupted the ODI World Cup. Players Virat Kohli and KL Rahul were unable to bat due to the rain. Groundstaff attempted to restart the game after showers stopped. After three investigations and fans' assistance, umpires attempted to restart play after over four hours of stoppage, but the rain ultimately prevailed.
India started strong with captain Rohit Sharma (56) and opener Shubman Gill (58), putting Pakistan on the back foot. The batsmen took on new-ball sets of Shaheen Shah Afridi and Naseem Shah, using aeronautical shots in the powerplay. Shaheen and Naseem looked threatening, with one edge from Gill between two slips. Rohit crushed leg-spinner Shadab Khan for two sixes and a four off progressive balls in a 19-go, causing commotion among Indian fans in a largely empty arena. Shadab made up for himself after the first over, sending Rohit out, and Shaheen bringing Gill in the following over.
Kohli and Rahul's scoring dropped as they aimed to recover before the rain ceased. The match is scheduled for 3pm on Monday.
India will face hosts Sri Lanka in their next Really Four match on Tuesday. Concerns have been raised over special treatment given to an India-Pakistan conflict. Sri Lanka mentor Chris Silverwood said he was "minimally astonished" when he heard about this, but as the opposition coordinators, they have little to do about it. The matches including Bangladesh and Sri Lanka in the Super Fours will have focuses shared if downpour cleans out play. The last match will be played on September 17, with a save day available in case of downpour.
