Divya Roy has asked what is the meaning of the word Ajanta?
Therefore, the meaning of Ajanta is being presented here for the information of all people.
Who is Khandoba of Jejri? This book has been written for all India. Quoted from page number 51-52 of this book:-
"How did the name 'Ajanta' come about?
This word is made from the word 'Ajit'. 'Ajit' means Tathagat Buddha, whom no one can kill. Ajitpuri or Achintpuri means the city of Tathagat Buddha. Present Ajanta: This place was a very important center of Buddhism, hence it is named Ajitpuri or Achintapuri i.e. Ajanta or Ajintha. " Famous archaeologist Mr. Na Deshpande ji told that Ajanta is a name referred to the name of Buddha. He says that "The word Than (place) of Thanala means 'place of worship'. In this the word 'Ta' also means 'place'. In this word Ajintha, the letter 'Tha' is a locative, I have shown this elsewhere also. On the same basis, the place name Ajintha has come from the old name 'Ajitanjay Sthan'. (Ajanta Murals, Page 15) Mahamayuri: In this book, it has been told that Kutdanshtra Yaksha's Thana was Ajitanjaya place. Ajit, this name is the future Buddha Maitreya. The place of the Yaksha, like the sharp stones of the mountain (Kutadanshtra), can be linked with Ajinta built in the hills. The colorful picture of Maitreya is painted at the entrance of cave number 17 of Ajinta.
